Judiciary appreciates support for Kona judiciary complex

The Hawaii State Judiciary appreciates the support of the House Finance Committee and Chairwoman Sylvia Luke for authorizing an additional $31 million for the Kona Judiciary Complex. We greatly appreciate the commitment from the House of Representatives and remain hopeful as the judiciary’s budget bill crosses over to the Senate.

We value the support from all our legislators, especially our Big Island legislators, as well as those representatives and senators who took the time to visit Kona and see first-hand the very challenging conditions of our current West Hawaii court facilities.

We would also like to thank the members of the community who submitted testimony or appeared in person before the Committee. The new courthouse will allow the Judiciary to consolidate its operations in a modern facility that will better serve the people of West Hawaii for generations to come, and we will continue to work with the legislature and community to secure funding for this vitally needed project.
